The first ever college football playoffs are about to begin with a four team playoff to determine the National Champion. Four teams will play in two semifinal games, with the winners advancing to the College Football Championship Game.

The two semifinal games will be played on New Year’s Day, one at the Rose Bowl in California and the other in the Sugar Bowl in Texas. The number one team in the rankings gets to choose which venue they want to play in. The match ups will be number one playing number four and number 2 playing number 3.

Here’s a wrap up of what happened on the final day of the regular season:

#1 Alabama won the SEC title by defeating #16 Missouri 42-13. Bama’s QB Blake Sims was 23-27 for 262 yards and two touchdowns. The Crimson Tide's defense held Missouri to 42 yards rushing on 23 carries.

#2 Oregon won the Pac 12 Championship with a 51-13 win. Heisman candidate and Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for two TD’s on a 25-38, 313 yard day. The Ducks held the Wildcats to 25 yards of offense in the first half.

$ 3 TCU beat an Iowa State team that is 2-10 on the season 55-3. The Horned Frogs won the Big 12 conference but have to share it with Baylor (Baylor beat TCU earlier in the season).  TCU only held a 14 point lead at the half but scored 38 unanswered points in the second half.

# 4 Florida State, despite being undefeated in the rankings is at #4 and won the ACC title over #11Georgia Tech 37-35. The Seminoles have won three straight ACC titles and have not lost a game in two years. Last year's Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston completed 21 passes for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns.

#5 Ohio State, despite playing with their third string quarterback Cardale Jones, beat #13 Wisconsin 59-0 to win the Big 10 Championship.  Ohio State held Heisman hopeful running back Melvin Gordon to only 79 yards rushing on 26 carries, far below his season average.

Here are the top four teams to play for the National Championship according to the ‘committee’.

Alabama remains #1

Oregon Remains #2

Florida State moves from 4 to #3

Ohio State moves up from 5 to #4

TCU, which was #3, drops to #6

Baylor, who defeated TCU in the regular season moves from 6 to #5

Playoff schedule is as follows:

#1 Alabama will play #4 Ohio State

#2 Oregon will play #3 Florida State

I agree with the final four considering Ohio State beat a much higher raked team than TCU. I agree TCU should have dropped to #6 and Baylor #5 since Baylor beat TCU in the regular season. The only difference I would have made was to put Florida State at #1, they are the only undefeated team on the list and any team that go the season without a lose belongs at the top.
