On Easter Sunday something happened at the Pony X-Press traveling petting zoo that hasn't happened in Maine for 20 years.

A reindeer was born. A dork brown female calf is the first reindeer to be born in Maine in over 20 years. Ed Papsis, co-owner of the petting zoo said when the added a 'couple' to their herd they had already bred but they weren't positive and 'volia'...a baby reindeer.

On centralmaine.com the birth came somewhat as a surprise because this is not the normal time of the year for reindeer to be born. They are usually born in late April and the spring.

The baby calf weighed in at 12 pounds when she was born.
