When Will the Augusta, Maine Renys Location Open?

Given the state of the economy it should not be a big surprise to anyone that more and more people are shopping at discount stores.

However, here in Maine, our love of discount stores goes back a long ways.  For the majority of longtime Mainers, shopping at discount stores is not just about saving a few dollars.  Nope!  The main reason we frequently visit these stores, and have been for decades, is that you never know what kind of great stuff you are going to find there.

While there are several notable discount store chains operating in Maine, many people would agree that Renys is their go-to discount store.

The first Renys location opened in Damariscotta in the 1940s.  Since then, the chain has expanded across the state.  Currently, there are 19 locations in Maine.  Soon, there will be 20.

When Does the New Renys Location Open?

The latest Renys location will be in Augusta.  The new store will take over a spot left vacant by the closure of the Big Lots on Western Avenue earlier this year.

The store will take over 30,000 square feet of space, but it is not clear how much of that will be for the store and how much will be for storage.  The owners say they plan to hire between 40 and 50 people to operate the store.

While they have not yet announced an opening date, it appears that we are getting closure.

The store is currently in the process of hiring and a recent article in the KJ explained that the plan is for the store to open in October.  However, no specific date has been announced.
