When Will the New Waterville, Maine, Renys Location Open?

Here in Maine, we have always loved our discount stores.

For the most part, Mainers are practical people who are always trying to save some cash.  If you can find it somewhere cheaper, buy it there!

These days, though, with the economy the way it is, we are all more likely to make our favorite discount stores our first stop when we need to purchase something.  Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Ocean State Job Lot, and Mardens, are some of our favorites.

In addition to being great places to find a deal, these stores are often a shopping adventure.  You really never know what kind of items you are going to find.

Actually, one of our favorite discount store chains makes it known that they are a shopping adventure right in their slogan.

Renys, a Maine Adventure

Believe it or not, the first Renys discount store opened over 75 years ago.  Located in Damariscotta, the first Renys location was opened by R.H. Reny in 1949.

The store was so slow in its first winter in business that the owner had to go door-to-door to sell his goods.  That ended up working out to his advantage, though.  During that winter of visiting homes in the community, he made many new friends who, beginning in the spring, became regular customers at his store.

These days, Renys has over 500 employees spread across the chain's 17+ stores.

When Will the Renys Store in Waterville, Maine, Open?

According to an article in the KJ, the newest Renys location, which will be located at Waterville's Elm Plaza, will open in early April.

The new store will be located in the old JC Penney's spot and will encompass 31,000 square feet.

As they near opening day, the store's management is looking to hire a number of employees.  They plan to have a hiring day on Friday, February 21st.  That job fair will take place at the store.
