After 146 years the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is folding-up their tents. The final performance will be in May of 2017.

I remember taking the kids to the Augusta Civic Center to see the Ringling Circus. That was years ago but it was fun. Well, those days are long gone now.

The reason for the closing is high operating costs and the decline of ticket sales. With the last performance coming in May the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will hold 30 shows across the country between now and then.

Once they made the decision to take the elephants off the road ticket sales dropped even more than they ever had. The elephants, for years, where the featured performer of the circus, but due to mounting criticism from animal rights groups, the circus phased out the elephants completely.
