Rockport Moving Forward With New Downtown Hotel
After nearly two years, it looks as though the the construction of a new Rockport hotel is closer to becoming a reality.
According to Village Soup, the city of Rockport is taking steps in the ongoing battle over the construction of a new hotel that will be located at 20 Central Street in Rockport Village.
As of February 3rd and after several appeals and hiccups along the way, the Rockport Planning Board has affirmed its original approval for construction of the new hotel.
During the February 3rd meeting, the board spent time making minor typographical changes and facts to the documents, leading the board to find a final vote of 4-0 in favor of the changes.
Originally the hotel was approved to have 26 rooms. Still, due to a new ordinance limiting all incoming hotels to a maximum of 20 rooms, the hotel's construction must not exceed the allotted amount.
There had also been concerns that the new hotel would not match the style of other buildings in the village. However, the board felt that the style of the building, currently being constructed, does match that of the other nearby buildings.
