According to an article on the WGME website, a man is facing some serious charges after he was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a woman and was taking her to the woods in order to sexually assault her.

The article explains that, according to authorities, just before 9 PM Friday, a Hallowell police officer on patrol noticed an SUV parked in the Vaughn Woods parking lot after dark.  Inside the vehicle were 51-year-old Scott Palmer and a female passenger.

Police say the woman repeatedly mouthed for help to the officer without speaking.  The officer then asked both individuals to step out of the vehicle.

During the investigation, the woman told police she had been driven around the Hallowell area against her will.  She alleged Palmer was attempting to convince her to leave the vehicle and go into the woods for sex.

Authorities say Palmer was already on probation for gross sexual assault at the time of the incident.

Palmer was arrested and charged with kidnapping, criminal restraint, and assault. He was transported to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility, where bail was set at $100,000.

*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law

The investigation remains ongoing.
