If you grew up in the '70s or '80s, chances are that Shooter Jennings' music video for his latest track, "Fast Horses & Good Hideouts," will take you for a walk down memory lane. The video pays homage to the classic variety show Hee Haw, which featured rural news and stories set to a backdrop of country music. In keeping with the throwback theme, the video also ends with a near-verbatim tribute to the mail-order "Freedom Rock" compilation commercials that originally aired in 1987.

The music video leads us through a slapstick-heavy run of jokes and skits meticulously styled after the Hee Haw oeuvre, featuring a collection of special guests that include Elle King, Jerry Cantrell, and Jenny Johnson as well as former child actor Danny Cooksey and comedian Jenny Johnson. "Hey Shooter, I heard you quit drinking for good!" Cooksey says in one such joke, popping up alongside Jennings against the backdrop of a corn field, as Jennings brandishes a beer can. "That's right, now I only drink for evil," Jennings yuks back.

But wait, there's more: Jennings also announced a new self-titled studio album in the works, which will include "Fast Horses & Good Hideouts" along with eight other tracks. Jennings' discography to date is comprised of seven studio albums which fall mainly in the realm of outlaw country and Southern rock; although the singer has also dabbled in other genres -- his most recent release, Countach (for Giorgio), is an electronica album -- he plans to return to his roots on Shooter.

"I was looking at country music looking at my place in it and I had a different perspective after doing Countach," Jennings explains in an interview with Rolling Stone Country. "Nobody is cutting a honky-tonk Hank Williams Jr. record right now. That is still missing from country, and that's what I and a lot of people want to hear. Everything is so politically divisive, and everybody wants a break from that s--t, and it's that down-home attitude that this music was born out of.

Jennings is also planning to hit the road in support of the new album, including a handful of stops with the Turnpike Troubadours, Jessi Colter and others. See below for the album's complete track list as well as tour dates. Shooter will be released on Aug. 10, but fans can pre-order it now.
