Maine State Police Investigating Monday Crash That Injured Three People

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, 3 people were injured Monday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Sidney that temporarily shut down portions of the northbound highway.

According to the Maine State Police, the crash happened at approximately 3:30 PM near mile marker 123.  Investigators say traffic had slowed because a State Police trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the side of the interstate.

Police say a 2004 Dodge Ram driven by 58-year-old Derrick Forbes of Brewer was unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander.  After the initial impact, Forbes' pickup sideswiped a 2011 Honda Pilot before striking a 2017 Toyota Tundra.

The driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi Outlander were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Honda Pilot was transported to Thayer Hospital in Waterville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both northbound lanes were briefly closed while emergency crews responded.  Once the damaged vehicles and debris were moved, the right lane remained closed until the scene was cleared.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers from Troop I were assisted by the Maine State Police Traffic Safety Unit, the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, the Sidney Fire Department, Delta Ambulance, Dostie's Towing, and Ready Road Towing.

State Police are reminding motorists to maintain a safe following distance, especially during periods of heavy traffic, and to slow down when approaching emergency scenes.
