Joshua R. McKechnie, 38, of Sidney has been sentenced to four years imprisonment, with all but 20 months suspended. He will also have to participate in two years of probation. He has also been ordered to avoid any contact with the victims of his crime, as well as he will be required to receive treatment for substance abuse according to a report by centralmaine.com.

McKechnie was sentenced for threatening to kill his aunt, showing up at a Waterville residence on May 17th, 2021 with a weapon, and also damaging vehicles at the residence.

McKechnie’s attorney, Daniel Dube, relayed to the court that McKechnie sufferers from severe drug addiction and mental health issues which lead to the McKechnie’s criminal behavior. Dube pleaded that he was seeking to limit the damage incarceration will do to his mental health and offer him an opportunity to rebuild his life.

The Judge, Sarah Gilbert, indicated his victim was fearful for her life. And had not heard anything in the proceedings to indicate the actions by McKechnie were anything but unprovoked.
