While skateboarding is huge in other parts of the country, it remains a niche activity here in Maine.

It is kind of unfortunate that it is not a bigger activity here in Maine.  There are so many benefits to skateboarding.  These include a cardiovascular workout, improved hand-eye coordination, stress management, and improved confidence.

In many areas, the lack of an appropriate place to skate has prevented more people from getting involved.

That is about to change in one small Maine town.

According to an article in the KJ, Farmington's Dragon's Nest Skateboard Park, which will be located on Prescott Street, just got a little closer to becoming a reality.

The project just got two huge chunks of cash.

The article explained that Tobias Parkhurst, of the Maine Skateboard Association, sent the organizers an email telling them they would get a $44,000 donation from the association.

Additionally, just over $4,000 was donated from money raised during Seth Wescott's annual golf tournament at Sugarloaf.

Currently, organizers are waiting on a grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.  The paperwork has been submitted and they are expecting to have approval on the grant by November.

If all goes well, they should be able to start construction sometime in 2025.  The Dragon's Nest Skateboard Park has been years in the works.  The article explains that the concept was first discussed in 2017.
