Snow Causes I-295 To Be Closed
The snow hitting the area today (Jan. 9) led to a major traffic problem, as I-295 was closed in Yarmouth due to a number of accidents. However, the road is now reopened.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, I-295 in Yarmouth was shut down for a time this morning in the northbound lanes for a number of vehicles off the road as motorists were caught by surprise by the morning snow. The road reopened about 9:45 a.m., McCausland said. State Police say all of the slide-offs were caused by drivers going too fast for conditions.
As of 10 a.m., the speed on the Maine Turnpike has been lowered to 45 mph.
