Special Olympics Maine is sending a group of 44 athletes, coaches and partners to the Special Olympics USA games in Seattle.

All 50 states and the District of Columbia will head to Seattle the July 1-6 event. The USA Games come ever 4 year with more than 4,000 athletes competing in 14 sports.

Events include swimming, flag football, soccer, golf, bowling and more. 70,000 spectators are expected to attend.

The Special Olympics Maine delegation will fly to Seattle tomorrow (6-30).

According to bangordailynews.com Special Olympics is a year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults who have intellectual disabilities. In Maine they serve more than 4,400 athletes and sponsor 75 events throughout the state each year.
