Here’s another of many reasons as to why crime doesn’t pay. Matthew Riggins, 22 years old from Florida, was eaten by an alligator while trying to avoid police.

Riggins told his girlfriend he was headed to Barefoot Bay, a town in Florida, to rob homes. He and friend were out to steal as much as they could from homes in the community but neighbors called police to report the two men. Police arrived around 2 a.m. with K-9 units but couldn’t find the men. Riggins had called his girlfriend and said he was going to ‘lay low’ for a while.

Later that day he was reported missing by his family and ten days later his body, or at least parts of it, were found. He was floating in a pond with an 11-foot alligator. The ‘gator’ was euthanized and his stomach contained Riggins remains.

Police surmise the alligator drowned Riggins when he was trying hide from police and then ate him. He decided to hide on the bank of the pond and the ‘gator’ got him.
