Happy New Year! 2013 is upon us and it's another chance to make and stick with New Year's resolutions. Looking back at 2012, I came close but didn't quite make my two New Year's resolutions. I wanted to drop down to 200 pounds and to bench press 250 pounds. I made it to 215 pounds, and have since gained some weight since my low point this summer. I also benched 240 pounds. I knew I needed to lose weight and I understood my family and friends concern and advice. However, it took me really wanting to do it for myself. I remember that moment when I said to myself 'I've got to change my body'.

Exercising, to some it's a dirty word, for others it's a passion and for the rest of us, it's a necessity. It's a very personal thing to take on an exercise routine. Whether it's for losing weight or getting stronger, knowing what to do before you set foot into a gym is very important.

I enjoy going to the gym. I try to go at least 5 to 6 times a week. I lift by myself 3 or 4 times a week and go with a friend twice a week. I like the days I go by myself, so I can do all the cardio I want.  I also like the days I go with a friend. We lift heavier and encourage one another and have a blast! For me, the gym isn't just about lifting, it's a very social thing.

However, I wanted to look into everyday Mainers who might have been world record holders. That's when I found out about Wilton's own Damian Osgood, more about him a little later.
