The 2023 Guide To Maine Agricultural Fairs And Festivals
Mainers are good at a lot of things, but one of the things we really take pride in is how well we put on a fair or a festival. We've had a lot of practice. A LOT of practice.
What is now known as the Skowhegan State Fair was one of the first fairs in the country. By some accounts, it is the oldest continuously happening fairs. The Somerset Central Agricultural Society put on its first fair in January of 1819! Yes, the Skowhegan State Fair is OVER 200 years old. Not even the pandemic of 2020 could stop the fair from happening!
Besides the Skowhegan State Fair, we have the Monmouth Fair, the Houlton Agricultural Fair, the Windsor Fair, and the Fryeburg Fair... To name just a few!
In addition to all of the great agricultural fairs, Maine has its fair share of great festivals, too. We've got festivals celebrating lobster (of course), clams, and whoopie pies. And, we even have a festival dedicated to Moxie! Yes, here in Maine we have a festival for a soda. A very unique soda...
Clearly, you are going to want to get to as many of these fairs and festivals as possible, right? Well, to help you plan which events you are going to attend, we have put together a list of some of the best fairs and festivals in the State of Maine.
