Thomas College in Maine Adds New Athletics Coaching Program
If you have ever envisioned yourself as the next Bill Belichick or Phil Jackson, Thomas College in Waterville has a new program that will really interest you!
According to an article on the WABI website, Thomas College is introducing a new Bachelor of Science program in Athletic Coaching starting this fall, designed to train future coaches and team leaders.
School officials say the program is focused on developing strong leaders who can guide athletes and teams to reach their full potential, with coursework covering areas like sport science, psychology, leadership, and performance training.
Dr. Greg King, a professor of sport management, says the goal is to prepare students for coaching at all levels, noting that graduates should be well-equipped for youth coaching roles and may continue on as graduate assistants while pursuing advanced degrees. King adds that he hopes to one day see Thomas alumni coaching at the highest levels, whether on the sidelines of an NBA game or in the dugout of a Major League Baseball team.
Students in the program will also gain real-world experience through hands-on learning opportunities and a professional internship.
Applications for the fall semester are now open.
