Two people were taken to the hospital following an early Friday morning crash in Fairfield.

According to the KJ, the crash, which happened at about 7 AM, involved an SUV and a garbage truck.

The newspaper article indicates that a truck driven by 33 year old John-Ryan Fitch, of South China, was driving south on Norridgewock Road.  As Fitch approached the entrance to a convenience store, a 2012 Ford Escape being driven by 18 year old Destini Betts, of Stonington, turned in front of the truck in an attempt to enter the parking lot of the store.

Fitch was unable to stop in time and hit the Ford.  Both vehicles went off the road an over an embankment.

Betts' vehicle rolled and, despite the fact she was wearing a seatbelt, she was ejected from the vehicle.

Both Betts and her passenger were taken to Thayer Center for Health in Waterville.  They were treated and have since been released.  Fitch and his passenger had only minor injuries.

The article indicates that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash and that the investigation continues.
