According to WGME, the Washington Redskins intend to retire their name today (July 13th).

The team launched an NFL approved review of the name on July 3rd.  The review came after several major sponsors, including Fedex and Bank of America asked the team to change their name.  On top of that, Nike pulled the team's gear from their online store.

In addition to complaints from sponsors, last week, over a dozen Native American leaders and organizations wrote to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell demanding an immediate end to the use of the name.

In part, that letter read:

"expect the NFL to engage in a robust, meaningful reconciliation process with Native American movement leaders, tribes, and organizations to repair the decades of emotional violence and other serious harms this racist team name has caused to Native Peoples."

No word on what the franchise's new name will be.
