Timeline For Major Waterville, Maine, Bridge Replacement Updated
It is kind of hard to believe that we have been covering the replacement of the iconic Ticonic Bridge for the better part of two years.
The $50 million project to replace the century old Ticonic Bridge got underway in March of 2023. It is expected that the project will be completed in late 2026 or early 2027.
When details about the project were first announced, we were given word that the span was going to need to be completely closed for several months. In October of 2024, we received word that the bridge was going to be closed for about seven months this coming winter. At that time, the project timeline called for the bridge to be closed from December 16th, 2024, through June 20th, 2025.
The Ticonic Bridge Timeline Update
According to the KJ, that timeline has now been updated. An article on the newspaper's website is now saying that the bridge will be completely closed beginning January 6th, 2025. It is expected that the bridge will be completely closed for about six months.
During the time that the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted across the Carter Memorial Bridge. Of course, if you are on foot and the weather is cooperating, you can always choose to cross on the Two Cent Bridge.
