What Would Like To See Go Into The Old Augusta Friendly’s?
It is kind of hard to believe that it has been several years since we woke up to the news that the Friendly's location in Augusta had closed its doors.
If you remember, most (if not all) of the employees had no idea the location was going to close until they went to work on the morning of April 8th, 2019 and found a sign taped to the door.
The signed read, in part:
We apologize for disappointing you on this visit, but this location is now closed for business. We regret that we do not have another Friendly's Restaurant near you, but we hope that you will visit one of our other locations when travelling. We appreciate your patronage over the years and for allowing us to try and make the world Friendly, one scoop at a time.
The Augusta location was one of just 23 that the regional chain closed on that day.
Now, it looks as though the owners of the plaza are trying to rent the location.
The restaurant has a decent-sized dining room and a diner style counter. Additionally, it has a walk-up window (it had been used for serving ice cream) and a patio space. And, it has a large sign dedicated to that business.
One of the cool things about all the businesses in the Augusta Plaza is the fact the plaza has a set of traffic lights. When working properly, that allows customers to exit in either direction onto Western Avenue.
Take a look:
We're hearing that the owners might also be up for getting rid of the current building and allowing a leaser to construct a new building.
