Earlier this year, we learned that Dine Brands Global was going to be bringing a unique combo restaurant concept to the United States.

Apparently, the company had been experimenting with combination Applebee’s/IHOP restaurants in other countries for some time.  There are more than a dozen unique restaurant hybrids located in Canada, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Honduras, and Peru.

In November, Pix11 reported that the first of these concept restaurants in the United States would open in Seguin, Texas, in January.  Seguin, a town of about 30,000 people, is located about 40 miles from San Antonio, Texas.

While the company has not commented on why the town of Seguin was chosen as the location for the first Applebee’s/IHOP in the United States, we do know that the space they are renovating was originally an IHOP.

While the restaurants will share a dining room, it will reportedly be split down the middle.  The red side will be for Applebee’s and the blue side will be for IHOP.  The good news, and most important part, is that you’ll be able to order off both menus all day long, regardless of which side of the dining room you are on.

So, you can have your riblets and fries while your significant other has their chicken & waffles.

Sounds good to us!

When will we see one of these combination Applebee’s/IHOPs (or, is it IHOP/Applebee’s?) here in New England?

It sounds like the company plans to open about 15 of these combo locations in the next year.  However, they have not announced where the next round of these restaurants will be located or when they will be opening.

Most likely, we’ll see them start popping up in more populated areas.  So, it is likely the first one in New England will be in Boston, Providence, or Hartford.

If you have that entrepreneurial drive and you love the service industry, it appears that Dine Brands is trying to find franchisees to open combo locations.  Get details HERE.
