The historic schooner, the Issac H. Evans, based in Rockland is going to soon have a new owner. Captain Brenda Thomas, who has owned the boat since 1999, is holding an essay contest to give the 99-foot schooner away.

The essay along with $125 entry fee is going to be held until October 31st. Thomas is looking for 8,000 entries at $125 each.

The essay needs to be up to 200 words in length.

Thomas will select her 20 favorite essays and then hand them to an independent panel of two people. They will decide the winner.

The new owner doesn't have to operate it as a schooner. They could live on it, turn it into a restaurant, they win they choose.
