You Could Be The Next Owner Of This 100 Year Old Maine Theater
Belfast really is the quintessential coastal Maine town. Narrow winding streets, unique locally owned shops, an active ship building industry, and local characters. The town is like something out of a movie.
And, even though the town is filled with unique homes and commercial buildings, there is one particular building that really sticks out - The Colonial Theater.
Recently, it was announced that the theater would be closing in September.
It was also announced that the building would be put on the market with hopes that someone who loves the theater, and the community, would re-open it. Is that you? Have you always wanted to own your own theater?
According to the listing on the Worth Real Estate website, the nearly century old building sits at 163 High Street in Belfast. The current building was built in 1923 and 1924 to replace the previous theater, which had burned down earlier in 1923. Having gone through fairly recent renovations, the theater features three screens, a digital projection system, and air conditioning.
One of the really cool things about the theater is that it can show movies and present live theater and concerts.

As the current building nears its 100th birthday (in 2024), it is important to note that the "theater" is well over a century old. Based on the website, it appears it first opened in April of 1912. So, it just celebrated its 110th birthday. Given its age, it should come as no surprise that the theater is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
