We often forget how lucky we are to live in such a great state.  Sure, Maine has its problems.  For the most part, though, it is a great place to live and raise a family.

In addition to the great people, easy access to outdoor activities, and the great hospitals, we have some amazing schools and colleges.

Of course, depending on what stage your family is in, some towns are better than others.  For example, what are the best communities in Maine to raise a teenager?

The team at Movoto has put together a list of the best Maine communities to raise a teenager.  While their list focused primarily on that community's high school, we did a bit of a deep dive into other things that make those communities great for raising kids.

#1 – Brewer

Even though Brewer is a small town, the fact that it is across the river from the much-larger Bangor means there is plenty for your teen to do.  Within a few minutes' drive, there are theaters, concert venues, and a mall.

Brewer High School has a student/teacher ratio of eight to one, and it has been ranked as the fifth-best high school in the state.

If your teen is making plans to attend college, there are several within a 15-minute drive of Brewer.  These include Husson University and UMO.

#2 – Cape Elizabeth

The Portland suburb is situated right on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean.  While it is a little on the pricy side, the town has a lot to offer.  The town is home to the Portland Head Light, Fort Williams Park, and a cool downtown. It's also a short drive from all that Portland and South Portland have to offer, and is a very safe community.

With just over 500 students, Cape Elizabeth High School is a smaller school with an amazing graduation rate.  Over 98% of those who attend the school graduate high school.

#1 – Falmouth

With a population of just over 12,000, Falmouth is a smaller town.  It is located in Cumberland County, putting it very close to all that the Portland area has to offer.  Of course, there is a lot to do in Falmouth.  There are hiking trails, beaches, and festivals.

Falmouth High School has just under 800 students and a graduation rate of 97.5%.  If you want your teen to excel, there are some benefits to attending Falmouth High School.  The biggest of those is how challenging the school is.  The school came in 4th place on the Washington Post’s list of the country’s most challenging schools.
