A new website hosted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office in Chicago is posting pictures and descriptions of unidentified remains to try and connect the bodies with family members. Most of the bodies will be identified by descriptions of clothing and physical characteristics, but in some cases pictures will be posted. Since this is a delicate subject, there will be a warning on the site to let you know some contents may be graphic.

The system has already helped a case in Michigan about a missing woman and it tried to find a friend’s homeless uncle who had been missing for more than a month, but he was not among the dead. The idea and hope is to have family that are missing loved ones check the site on a regular basis and hopefully find the person they are searching for so the family can have closure. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office also hopes to reunite families and save the county on the cost of burial fees at the public’s expense.
