George Jones, also known as the Possum, 81, is gone.

He went in the hospital for irregular blood pressure and a fever last week. He cancelled a few concerts but unfortunately, one of the country greats is now in Heaven.

Jones had recently embarked on what was to be his farewell tour, appropriately dubbed the Grand Tour. The celebration of his storied career was planned to wrap up with an all-star farewell concert on Nov. 22 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, for which Jones had already announced a jaw-dropping array of guest stars as a testament to his enduring musical legacy.

Jones is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Nancy Jones, his sister Helen Scroggins, and by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Former husband of Tammy Wynette, they made a career with their beautiful duets. Jones had a very tumultuous life chronicled by alcoholism but nothing can take away the incredible songs we'll always remember.

'He Stopped Loving Her Today' will always remain as one of the top country songs of all time.

We'll miss you, Possum. Who's Gonna Fill YOUR Shoes?
