Members of Friends of Bicentennial Nature Park, a group that raises money to hep offset the city of Augusta's expenses running the city-owned park, wants to allow non-residents into the park as a way to boost revenue.

The Bicentennial Nature Park, which is just off of Route 3 in Augusta, was closed by the city in 2012 to save about $40,000. The Friends of Bicentennial Nature Park along with the Rotary Club and others raised thousands of dollars in 2013 to reopen the park.

The group proposed to the city council recently that non-residents be charged about twice what Augusta residents pay to use the park.

Opponents are concerned that the park was grow too quickly.

The park offers a picnic area with 30 tables and 8 grills, a swimming area with docks, floats and slides, hiking trails, canoe & kayaking access, fishing and bathrooms and changing rooms.

The Park will open for the season on June 14th.
