With the winter that won't let go of it's icy cold grip, Mainers are not only paying more to heat their homes this winter, the cost of running their vehicles is going up and in a big way. According to the price-monitoring website GasBuddy.com, gas prices in Maine were up 5 cents a gallon this past week, for an average of $3.55 a gallon.The lowest gas prices in Maine were found in Scarborough and West Bath with a gallon of gas costing you $3.43 a gallon.

Gas prices across the country are also rising sharply for an average of $3.40 a gallon.

South Carolina has the lowest average gas prices in the United States at $3.13 a gallon.

Hawaii has the highest average gas price at $4.04 a gallon.

The lowest price for a gallon of gas that I could find was $2.95 a gallon. That price were at gas stations in South Carolina, Alabama and Texas.
