Man Steals Bread Truck and Continues to Make Deliveries
David Bastar stole a bread truck in New York recently from Grimaldi’s Home of Bread on Manhattan’s Upper East Side while the driver was making a delivery. After Bastar stole the truck, he continued to make the deliveries.
Bastar, wearing only his underwear, began dropping off whole-wheat roles, baguettes and sourdough bread but not to the bakery’s customers. The bread was delivered somewhere but the bakery doesn’t know where, about $5,000 worth of bread was dropped off before the driver was able to get his truck back. Bastar was arrested in the truck at LaGuardia airport when a driver called police reporting being tailgated by a bread truck.
Bastar was taken to the hospital for evaluation and charged with theft and driving without a license.
