People Living Six Years Longer
Men and Women around the world are living longer. Life expectancy is six years longer than a generation ago. Men are living 5.8 years longer and women an extra 6.6 years.
In high-income regions death rates fell, cancer by 15% and heart disease by 22%. While death rates are falling around the world there is one exception, Southern Sub Africa where HIV and AIDS have taken away 5 years from life expectancy.
There have been dramatic drops in children deaths in the last 23 years too from 7.6 million in 1990 to 3.7 million in 2013.
