The Susan G. Kormen breast cancer research foundation affiliate in Maine will end their operations at the end of the month.

According to the Portland Press Herald, President of the board Cathy Dow made it official on Wednesday. Dow emailed last year’s Race for the Cure participants to let them know the Maine affiliate will no longer operate and that includes the race that attracted more than 2,000 people.

The directors voted in late December to shut the Maine program down and is now making final payments and closing its Brewer offices. The organization will be shut down by March 31, the close of its fiscal year.

Maine has contributed more than $900,000 to Korman’s national research program. The closure is blamed on saturation in Maine in the fundraising market and step decline in racers and donation amounts.
