Governor Paul LePage has declared a state of emergency as the state Maine deals with the effects of Sandy. The statute allowing the declaration states: "In the event of disaster beyond local control, the governor may assume direct operational control over all or any part of the emergency management and public safety functions within the state."

In the Northeast, people are swarming to beg, borrow, steal and even purchase last-minute emergency supplies to prepare for the worst of Hurricane Sandy. However, many stores are running out of those items, leaving people to return home empty-handed.

However, the funniest Twitter account for the Frankenstorm, aka Hurricane Sandy is run by Elijah Daniel and will keep you laughing long after the storm moves away from your area.
In case you missed it -- there's a storm a-brewin'! Hurricane Sandy is lurching her way up the coast, heading for us all. Yesterday, the MTA announced it was shutting down trains in NYC at 7 pm and buses at 9pm. With the eye of 2012's Hurricane Sandy expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours, residents along the east coast are taking measures to stay safe during, and after, what is being described as the "perfect storm." A high wind watch is in effect for Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning for Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Cumberland, York, Kennebec, Androscoggin, southern Oxford, southern Franklin, and southern Somerset counties. Wind gusts over 55 miles per hour are possible.
