It’s called ‘The Chairless Chair’ because it’s nothing like your traditional chair. It doesn’t actually touch the ground and it’s a chair you wear. It’s a mobile exoskeleton that allows you to sit anywhere at any time.

The design comes from Keith Gunura , he came up with the idea while working at a packaging factory and having to stand all day. Breaks where rare, chairs took up too much space and it too far in between breaks so he could sit for a few minutes relieving the stress on his knees.

‘The Chairless Chair’ is made of aluminum and carbon fiber, weighs 4.4 pounds and runs on a 6-volt battery with an 8 hour charge. You wear it under you clothes and when you want to sit, you squat down in the sitting position and it holds you there without anything touching ground. It mobile too, you can still walk or run normally.

The chair is being tested with production line workers at Audi and BMW and until tests are complete it will not be available to the general public. But one day you may be able to sit down without carrying a chair around with you.
