The Ukraine Navy is missing three attack dolphins that didn’t come back during a training exercise earlier this month and they are not sure where they are. The dolphins are from a team of five that have been trained for the military to find mines but can also be outfitted with knives and guns. The Ukraine Navy is denying the dolphins were armed after reports leaked about the dolphins, but they did come up missing during a training exercise in the Black Sea.

Using dolphins for military purposes was common in the 1980’s with the Russian Navy and the United States Navy used dolphins in warfare too, training and deploying them for intelligence gathering during the Iraq War. It is believed the male dolphins may have been released for the training exercise during mating season and if the animals spotted a female during this time, they, ummm, chased some tail.
