Veterans Day Parades + Ceremonies in Central Maine

We salute all veterans and their families. Thank you for your service.

The following are Veterans Day parades and ceremonies around central and mid-coast Maine on Monday, Nov. 11:

Augusta, Veterans Day Remembrance at the Maine State Armory, Western Ave. under the direction of the American Legion, Department of Maine, Cmdr Herman Wright.

Augusta, Gov. Paul LePage will visit the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta at 10:00 a.m.

Augusta, Armistice Day, a Veterans Day Celebration at Old Fort Western, Cony Street. On Veterans Day, in conjunction with area churches and the American Legion, there will be a day of remembrance for the veterans of WWI. It will begin at 10:45 a.m., with the firing of the cannons at the fort, followed by the ringing of area church bells at 11:00 a.m., the time of the WWI armistice, or cessation of hostilities. At 11:00 a.m. local veterans, the Mayor of August, and the State Commander of The American Legion will lay a wreath at the WWI Memorial at Memorial Circle. At 3:00 p.m. a memorial service for Captain Howard, Commander of Fort Western during the French and Indian War (1754-1767), and his descendants, will take place at the Riverside Cemetery. The public is invited to attend both the wreath laying and the memorial service. Admission is free and children and adults of all ages are welcome to attend. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Augusta, Veteran’s Day ‘All American Buffet Family Style’ Veterans Eat Free at Senator Inn & Spa, Western Avenue, from 11am to 2pm. Nominal Charge for Friends & Family.

Augusta, free supper for veterans and their families at the South Parish Church at 5:00 p.m.

Augusta, a Veterans Day observance at 8:00 a.m. at Togus VA Medical Center.

Waterville, parade from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The American Legion Bourque-Lanigan Post No. 5 are organizers to honor all of those who served in our Armed Forces. Participants will assemble at the Post at 22 College Ave., by 9:30 a.m. The parade route begins at the Post, to Main St., then left onto Front St. and back to the rear entrance of the American Legion Post. After the parade, there will be a ceremony in the parking lot near the tank.

Bath, parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Participants will assemble at 10:00 a.m. in the American Legion Post No. 21 parking lot and continue onto Congress Avenue. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Soldiers’ Monument. The parade continues to Linden Street and concludes with a memorial service at the Bath Library.

Damariscotta, parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln County News on Route 215. Veteran Stanley Wall will be parade marshal.

Madison, Veteran’s Day Observances, 11:00 am to 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 20 S. Maple Street. There will be a ‘Laying Ceremony’ at the American-Canadian Memorial at Forest Hills Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. followed by Veteran’s Day Services and Special Roll Call at at 11:45 a.m. Light lunch served will be served at 1:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. there will be the Flag Retirement Ceremony (proper disposal of flags) with NCB39 Sea Cadets and local Boy Scout Troops. Please bring any old, tattered flags with you or drop them off at the hall.

Richmond, parade starts at 11:00 at the Richmond Business Park. It will be approx 1 1/2 miles long. Refreshments after at the American Legion Post 132, Carding Machine Road, Richmond.

Owls Head, The Owl Heads Transportation Museum will offer free admission to all veterans of the armed services throughout the day. The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for non-veterans or free for children under 18.

Free Car Washes for Veterans, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at J & S Ultra Clean Car Washes, Manchester, Waterville, Lewiston. Available to veterans, active military and Gold Star license plate holders.
