There's more to Holidays than gift-giving.  Everyone has a tradition that they have and it gives you something to look forward to.  Whether it's letting little Timmy put the star on top of the Christmas Tree.  Making sugar cookies with Nana.  Or a family Yankee Swap.  There's no rule that says you have to do everything like everyone else...and that's why traditions really make the Holiday Season!

Every year, my Aunt Amy and Uncle Ralph put on a children's Christmas party for all the kids in the family.  It is an event that my children look forward to each year.  There is always a wonderful craft for the kids to do.  This year, Amy baked gingerbread houses for each child to decorate.  After they do their craft, there's caroling.  Giggles and excitement raise as they start to sing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" because that means Santa is coming for them with presents.  Each child gets a present.  Then they fill their bellies with lots of cookies and treats.  When they leave, the kids are given goody bags filled with homemade baked items and a Nutcracker.  It's a magical time and the kids always leave so excited about Christmas.

I'm guilty to admit, that I too, have started the Elf on the Shelf tradition.  But it's so much fun.  We also have specific treats that we only bake during the Holidays.  What traditions does your family have?
