One person is dead following a home explosion that happened in Maine over the weekend.

WGME 13 is reporting that a home in New Gloucester exploded on Saturday afternoon just after 12. Officials say that they responded to a home on Intervale Road after reports of the explosion.

The homeowner, 44-year-old, Lado Ladoka, was killed in the blast. However, a family member that was also inside the home at the time of the explosion was able to safely make it out of the house and get to the roadway.

Crews on the scene tell the news station that they believe the homeowner was working on his furnace at the time of the explosion. The furnace, an oil-burning unit, is being investigated further by officials at this time.

The Portland Press Herald reports that along with the New Gloucester Fire Department, other agencies on scene included  Auburn, Durham, Gray, North Yarmouth and Pownal Fire Departments. Additionally, officials from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and an inspector from Maine Solid Fuel responded to the scene of the Saturday explosion.

The Press Herald said that the incident is being treated as accidental, and the investigation of the cause of the blast will continue.

Maine State Police and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are leading the investigation, according to the newspaper.
