Hardy Taylor's journey with the Oakland Fire Department began he was just 14 years old, when he joined the department for a ride-along. He wanted to join the department then, but was told he was too young. When he turned 18, he officially joined the department, after years of witnessing what they did.

According to CentralMaine.com he became an assistant chief and eventually Deputy Chief in 2000. While doing this, he also worked at A. O. Taylor and Sons, his father’s small engine sales and repair business.

After 6 decades with the department, he has hung up his helmet.

There will be a retirement party for Taylor on Saturday, January 18th from 1 to 3 p.m in the Williams Elementary School cafeteria and it is open to the public.
