The Animal Planet Network has a hit show, made in Maine, with North Woods Law. And now, they might be looking to Maine eel fisherman for another reality series. Crews from the Animal Planet network, have been filming eel fisherman in Portland and Yarmouth, for a proposed new show called 'Eel of Fortune'.Young eels, known as elvers, are being sold to Asian markets for more than $2,000 a pound. Some Maine fisherman have made more than $100,000 during the 10-week season. There are only about 400 state licenses for elvers in Maine and that's where the drama comes into play. Fishermen guarding their fishing spots and some who are fishing illegally.

Yarmouth residents have seen television crews near the Royal River off of Route 88 for several nights, waiting for elver fisherman to show up.

Animal Planet announced 'Eel Of Fortune' in a news release last summer, stating they would feature Maine's elver fishery. No word yet of when the show might air.
