Auburn Business: Christmas Lights Or Illegal Advertising?

Officials in Auburn and Lewiston are trying to determine if a Christmas light display created by Republic Jewelry is illegal advertising.

The owner of Republic Jewelry and Collectibles in Auburn, Dan Cunliffe Jr., has several Christmas displays placed throughout Lewiston and Auburn. The display spells out the word 'Republic' in white lights.

The question is whether of not if the displays are violating city ordinances.

Cunliffe says that his Christmas displays are just that, Christmas displays and not advertising.

City officials will determine if he need a permit for the holiday signs.
