Even though the 4th of July is always one of the year's most anticipated holidays, this year's Independence Day is going to be even better.

Why?

Because it is on a Friday!

That means that, after you spend the entire day watching the parade, going from BBQ to BBQ, and then going to the park to watch the fireworks, you will likely be able to sleep in on Saturday morning.

Right?

And, as is always the case, the City of Augusta is getting geared up for another epic 4th of July celebration.

The City of Augusta 4th of July Celebration

According to a post on the City of Augusta Facebook page, the fun will get underway at 10 AM with the annual 4th of July parade.  As in years past, the staging area for the parade will be the Maine State House parking lot.  After leaving the parking lot, the parade will travel around Memorial Circle, down Rines Hill through Water Street, and across the Calumet Bridge to end at Old Fort Western.

At 11:30 AM, the events at Old Fort Western will start.  The post explains that these will include:

Reading of the Declaration of Independence by Mayor O’Brien accompanied by a "feu de joie" (musket salute) by Fort staff. Join the “Old Time 4th Celebration” for games, pie-eating contest, wagon rides, and a performance by the Downeast Brass Band. BBQ Chicken & Strawberry Shortcake luncheon by Club Calumet. NEW this year, shuttle between Mill Park and Old Fort Western.

At 1:30, the action switches to Mill Park.  There'll be bounce houses, games for the kids, a DJ spinning music, live music from Ashley Maron and Dakota, and food from a variety of food trucks.
