Augusta Woman Bit by Rabid Raccoon
An elderly woman in Augusta was bit last Thursday (March 17) by a rabid raccoon. Augusta police say the incident occurred in the area of Sewall Street, and that other raccoons have been spotted in the area.
According to centralmaine.com, the 73-year old was told to seek medical attention and advice and to contact the Center for Disease Control.
The animal was found and killed by the Augusta Police and was then taken to the Maine CDC for testing. The tests came back positive for rabies.
Augusta Police encourage residents that if they see any animals acting strangely, to contact the police or the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
