Has the Iconic Big G’s in Winslow, Maine, Really Closed Permanently?
For nearly four decades, people in Central Maine have known that Big G's Delis in Winslow was the place to go for a great sandwich.
Actually, Big G's not only served some of the best sandwiches in all of Maine, but also the biggest. These culinary delights were large enough to feed the average adult male for two meals.
Sadly, it looks as though the iconic eatery has closed permanently.
A post on their website reads, "Sorry, we have closed as of 7/14/2024." That message was posted at the top of the Big G's website, but there was no other mention of them closing on the site.
Additionally, when the business's phone number is called, callers get a message saying that the number is "vacant".
From Humble Deli to Iconic Central Maine Restaurant
Big G's was founded by Gerald Michaud, Jr. in 1986. The eatery had humble beginnings as a tiny deli, but eventually expanded to become a 200-seat restaurant.
While the restaurant was known for its sandwiches (many of which were named after local and international celebrities), the menu included so much more.
You could start your day with a traditional breakfast; pancakes, eggs, bacon, and more.
At lunchtime, you could stop by for one of their enormous sandwiches. At dinnertime, you could enjoy another sandwich (assuming you were able to finish the one you got for lunch) or get one of their complete meals. They served up great meals, including a variety of pasta dishes, chicken tenders, and more.
What happened to Big G's?
So far, no reason has been given for the closure. We just hope everyone is okay.
