Just days after it was reported that employees had been told that they could expect layoffs in the near future, Central Maine Healthcare is in the news again.

According to an article on the WGME, hackers had access to sensitive information on the healthcare company's website for several months earlier this year.

The article explains that the hackers had access between March 19th and the first part of June.  During that time. the hackers had access to the personal information of patients.  Names, social security numbers, birth dates, health conditions, and more.

One of the reasons why this attack is considered more severe than others is the fact that it took so long for the IT department to realize that someone had access to their systems.  In total, the hackers had access for nearly 2 1/2 months!

It is not clear why the data breach was not announced until recently.

If your data was compromised, you should be getting a letter with details.
