Major Maine Healthcare Company Reportedly Announces Upcoming Layoffs
The last few years have been tough for Maine hospitals.
Since 2020, we have seen many hospitals either cut back on the care they provide, or outright close.
For example, in March it was announced that Waterville's Northern Light Inland Hospital would be closing permanently. You can read more about that closure HERE.
Now, we are getting word that another Central Maine hospital intends to lay off as many as 100 employees in the near future.
According to an article on the KJ website, Central Maine Healthcare announced to staffers on Thursday that layoffs throughout the company will be coming soon.
The company, which operates hospitals in Lewiston, Bridgton, and Rumford, has not announced publicly, yet, but a source close to the situation who did not want their name out there has confirmed the cuts are real.
It is believed that an official announcement will come from the company on Friday.
While no official reason was given, it looks like ongoing Medicaid issues, both in Maine and nationally, could be part of what’s driving the decision to make layoffs.
In June, the company fell victim to a significant cyber attack. That attack made it nearly impossible to reach healthcare providers for several days.
The company is also in the process being acquired by the Prime Healthcare Foundation.
When we learn more about the situation we will pass the information on to you.
