
Second Child Injured in Central Maine Crash Dies of Injuries
On Sunday, we told you about a tragic incident that happened in Albion on Friday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the crash happened on Hussey Hill Road late Friday afternoon. According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, a 2016 Hyundai sedan hit three people before fleeing the scene. One of the people hit was an adult, the other two were said to be "minors".
The vehicle then fled the scene.
The adult victim, 33-year-old Mollie Egold of Albion, was seriously hurt and had to be flown to the hospital by LifeFlight. She’s now in stable condition.
One of the children died at the scene. The other child was transported to the hospital.
On Tuesday afternoon, an update from the Maine Department of Public Safety confirmed that the other child had passed away from his injuries.
Mollie Egold is reportedly now in stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 44-year-old Benjamin Lancaster, of Albion.
Lancaster was arrested shortly after the crash and was taken to the Kennebec County Jail. He has been charged with: Operating Under the Influence Causing Death, Operating Under the Influence Causing Serious Bodily Injury (2 counts), Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Death, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury (2 counts).
However, given the death of the second child, there is a chance that we could see him charged with additional crimes.
