Child Shot During Maine 4th Of July Celebration, Suspect Still on The Loose

A Juvenile was shot and fireworks were cancelled during a Maine 4th of July celebration last night.

According to WGME 13, the incident happened at about 7pm last night during the Independence Day Celebration in the town of Naples, Maine. Police say that around 7pm, 5 shots rang out across the celebration, striking vehicles and a juvenile.

The suspect fled the scene and LifeFlight of Maine was called in to the scene to transport the young victim to Maine Medical Center in Portland where they were said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the shooting, which happened near route 114 and the Naples Causeway, the town of Naples decided it best to cancel the fireworks display.

Cumberland County Sheriff, Kevin Joyce, said in a statement about the shooting,

“This was an isolated incident. We think the suspect is not in the area. We're chasing down leads right now. You've probably seen vehicles go by. Anything that comes in we're looking for. But I encourage the shooter, he knows who he is, we know who he is, he should turn himself in."

According to WGME 13, Sheriff Joyce describes the suspect as an 18-year-old male abound 5’8” and 120 pounds. Joyce says that the suspect has blonde hair and was last seen last night wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt. Police say that they don't believe the suspect is armed, but if you do encounter him, don't approach him and immediately call 9-1-1.
