DEA Warns Maine Parents About Drugs That Look Like Candy
Sadly, drugs have really become a big problem in Maine. One of the most concerning drugs is fentanyl.
According to WGME, the DEA is warning Mainers about fentanyl-laced pills that could be confused for candy or chewable vitamins.
The pills, which were found in Cumberland County, are green and purple in color. The pills are shaped like "alien" heads and hand grenades, See a picture of them HERE.
It is thought that the use of the bright colors and "characters" could be a way to entice young adults and teens into using the drugs.
According to DEA representatives, the biggest concern is that pills have a much higher likelihood of causing an accidental drug overdose. An analysis of the pills found that 40% had at least two milligrams of fentanyl, which is enough to be considered lethal.
Agents say they have found a link between criminals in Mexico and pills that cause over-dose deaths. Many of the chemicals used in the making of these "counterfeit" pills are made with chemicals sourced in China. They are then moved across the border and distributed in America.
Please let you children know that if they find these pills, or someone attempts to give them these pills, they should tell and adult so that it can be reported to police.
