On Wednesday Maine wildlife regulators will decide if they want to increase the number of deer hunting permits.

Because of a mild winter they want to increase the number by 60% or more than 45,000 any deer permits. State biologists said mild winter is what would allow the increase in hunting permits. Harsh winters have the opposite effect, culling the deer herd and requiring less hunting.

Without an ‘any deer’ permit hunters are only allowed to shoot deer with antlers.
